Are you looking for parquet for a home, restaurant or other business? We will help you make the right choice for the perfect parquet floor.

How wide should my parquet floor be?

When it comes to the dimensions of parquet flooring, the main consideration is the width of the planks. In most cases the planks are 6 to 16 cm wide, but wider planks are certainly also possible. Each parquet floor has a bevel as standard. These are the bevelled sides of the plank. For a tighter look, you can choose not to bevel. In general, there is a guideline for determining the width of parquet planks: The larger the room, the wider the plank as this gives more of a sense of space.

Floor boards can vary in length between 100 and 240 cm and depends on the laying pattern used. Shorter planks are usually used for patterned floors such as herringbone and Hungarian point. The most important factor in determining parquet length is the size of the room. The advantage of wider and longer planks is that the laying process is faster, which is useful in large rooms such as in a restaurant, for example.

How thick should my parquet floor be?

A wood floor usually has a thickness between 6 and 22 mm: Tapis parquet has a thickness of 6 mm. Burgundy parquet has a thickness of 9 mm. Solid wood planks have a thickness of at least 10 mm. The thickness of laminate parquet ranges from 12 to 21 mm, with a top layer of 3 or 6 mm. Finally, solid wood planks have a maximum thickness of 22 mm. The thickness of a wood floor is important because a thicker plank makes the floor heavier. This also contributes to a more beautiful lying floor and offers more sound insulation.

The best direction for your floor?

Laying your parquet floor widthwise will immediately make the room appear much wider. If you place your floor lengthwise you will create more depth in the room. If you want to open up a room you can choose to lay your floor diagonally.
